Rock wool products are inorganic thermal insulation materials made primarily from natural rock through high-temperature melting and fiberization. They are widely used in insulation and sound absorption applications in buildings and industrial equipment. Their unique physical and chemical properties place special demands on logistics and transportation, making scientific logistics planning crucial for ensuring product quality and reducing transportation costs.

 

Physically, rock wool products are lightweight, porous, and fragile. Their density typically ranges from 60–200 kg/m³, resulting in a loose texture and low compressive strength. They are susceptible to deformation or breakage during handling and stacking. Furthermore, rock wool fibers are slender and easily fly. If not properly packaged, they can generate dust during transportation, compromising product cleanliness and potentially endangering the health of operators. Therefore, rock wool products are typically wrapped in moisture-proof and waterproof outer coverings (such as plastic film or aluminum foil) and secured in wooden boxes, pallets, or specialized containers to minimize mechanical damage and dust leakage during transportation. In terms of chemical stability, rock wool offers excellent weather resistance and is resistant to common chemicals. However, prolonged exposure to humid environments may cause the fibers to absorb moisture, reducing their thermal insulation properties. Therefore, during logistics, it is important to avoid rain and high humidity, and storage should be kept ventilated and dry. For long-distance transportation, especially by sea or land through regions with varying climates, sealed packaging and a moisture-proof layer are necessary.


From a logistics perspective, rock wool products are large in size but lightweight, necessitating optimized space utilization within transportation vehicles. Proper loading strategies, such as using standardized pallets or modular packaging, can improve transportation efficiency and reduce cargo damage. Furthermore, while rock wool products are non-hazardous, their dust may cause respiratory irritation, requiring logistics personnel to wear protective equipment and exercise care during loading and unloading to avoid violent collisions.
