Rubber and Plastic Product Usage Tips and Maintenance Guide

Sep 24, 2025 Leave a message

Rubber and plastic products are widely used in industry, construction, and daily life due to their excellent corrosion resistance, insulation, and elasticity. However, improper use can shorten their lifespan or affect their performance. Mastering proper usage techniques can effectively enhance the efficiency and durability of rubber and plastic products.

1. Proper Installation and Adaptation

Before installation, ensure that the rubber and plastic product is compatible with the operating environment, including temperature, pressure, and media compatibility. For example, high-temperature-resistant rubber products should not be used in excessively hot environments, as this can cause hardening or deformation. During installation, avoid scratching the surface with sharp objects and apply protective layers as necessary. Sealing rubber and plastic products (such as gaskets) require uniform force. Excessive compression will reduce rebound performance, while insufficient compression may cause leakage.

2. Daily Use Precautions

Rubber and plastic products are sensitive to chemicals. When exposed to oils, acids, and alkalines, ensure the material's resistance to these chemicals. For example, ordinary PVC products tend to swell when exposed to grease, while fluororubber offers excellent oil resistance. Long-term exposure to UV rays or ozone accelerates aging. For outdoor use, it is recommended to use products with UV-resistant additives or install protective covers. Rubber and plastic components in dynamic use (such as drive belts) should be regularly inspected for wear to prevent breakage due to localized stress concentration.

3. Cleaning and Maintenance

Use a neutral detergent when cleaning; avoid strong acids, strong bases, or organic solvents. Stubborn stains can be wiped with a soft cloth dipped in alcohol, but dry immediately to prevent swelling. The storage environment should be dry and well-ventilated, away from heat sources and ozone generators (such as near motors). It is recommended that unused rubber and plastic products be stored flat or hung to avoid folding, squeezing, or permanent deformation.

4. Regular Inspection and Replacement

Even high-quality rubber and plastic products will age over time. It is recommended to inspect them every six months for cracks, hardening, or loss of elasticity. Critical safety components (such as seals) should be replaced according to the manufacturer's recommended cycle. Do not ignore potential risks simply because they appear to be in good condition.

Proper use and maintenance can significantly extend the life of rubber and plastic products while ensuring their functional reliability. Following the above tips will maximize the performance advantages of rubber and plastic materials.
